Program Overview

This flexible multidisciplinary degree for full-fee-paying international students provides a grounding in theories and practices appropriate for the communication & information technology industry, including knowledge of the Internet environment and its future directions.

The program allows students to tailor their study to meet their individual needs. Students will be able to design a program to satisfy entry requirements of professional societies and prepare for careers in such fields as electronic publishing, information provision, data communications, design and development of multimedia systems, networking, advertising, Internet marketing, interactive design, staff development, electronic engineering, education and training.

The “core” of the degree provides students with basic skills required for university study including communication skills. The “technical specialisations” enable students to develop the technical skills and knowledge in communication and information technology. The “additional sequences” enable students to apply their core learning to their chosen industries and interests, or to gain useful complementary skills and knowledge.

Program Structure

To obtain a Bachelor of Communication & Information Technology, a student must complete a total of 32 courses/192 units of credit as follows:

  • ten compulsory courses in English & Communication skills, and basic knowledge and skills in communication & information technology;
  • ten core courses in a technical specialisation study area in communication & information technology taken from the list below;
  • at least one additional sequence of six courses of study taken from the list below;
  • additional elective courses to bring the total for the degree to 32 courses. These courses may be selected so as to add greater depth to the selected specialisation and/or sequence or may be selected to create a second sequence.

Note: some courses may not be available at some locations.

Please note that full-time students usually enrol in four courses per term and part-time students usually enrol in two courses per term per term.
