Program Overview

The Bachelor of Communication allows students to acquire key communication skills across a range of areas. All students will complete a common core of theoretical and practical courses. They will also complete an elective plan from one of four specialisations: Professional Communication, Journalism, Film Studies or Multimedia. A further six elective courses must also be completed.

Program Structure

The program consists of 24 courses/144 units of credit, comprised of at least 8 and no more than 10 level one courses. The program consists of the following components:

Professional Communication provides vocational skills relevant to public relations, information management, publishing and other communication careers. Note that any course used in the course stream cannot also contribute to the Professional Communication plan.

Transitional Arrangments for continuing students

The new rules will apply only to students who commence in Autumn 2003 or later. Students who have commenced earlier will not be disadvantaged; they will choose courses in conformity with the rules that applied when they commenced. In the event that a student who had commenced prior to Autumn 2003 wished to complete either of the new courses (available in 2005) these could be counted as contributing to the Professional Communication plan or to the communication electives as specified under the present rules.

Application for Credit Transfer

Credit transfer will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary studies equivalent in content and depth to the CQU program has been successfully completed. Students should examine the course synopses in this handbook to determine the courses from which they may be eligible to claim exemption.
