In this course students will examine everyday genres and contexts of communication, including the workplace, the family, the classroom and the media. Theories of practice and approaches to discourse will be used to inform the analysis of a variety of communication practices and their associated discourse strategies. The relation between genres of face-to-face interaction and media genres will be explored. This course will be of benefit to all students wanting to acquire literacy in communication practices in a variety of contexts, including those of the workplace.
