This course is designed to introduce students to the concept that, in multimedia, readers interact with texts. A text is considered to consist of all the diverse media forms that multimedia employs, and how they function together to produce meaning. This course examines how readers read the different kinds of text that multimedia practice assembles. The objective of this work is to examine creative ways to integrate technical, aesthetic, textual and functional aspects. The course will examine a diverse range of on-line texts, basic hypertext theory, interactivity and information design. These conceptual investigations will be carried out alongside creative skills development in digital image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop/Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Web construction. Access to a multimedia computer with an Internet connection, audio capabilities and a CD-ROM drive is a requirement for this course.
