Introduction to Journalism B is designed to revise, extend and develop knowledge and skills satisfactorily achieved in JOUR11005 (Introduction to Journalism A) - a prerequisite for this course. The exercises and assignments provide further instruction and practice in news writing and news gathering including online journalism (e-journalism). The course requires students to actively engage with their local community by reporting on events and community organisations, local courts, municipal councils and local political issues. The theoretical context provides for an increased understanding of the role of journalism and addresses major contemporary media issues such as codes, laws and regulations and ownership.
