This course provides students with a language and analytical framework for discussing graphical genres and styles, along with practical skills for creating and manipulating digital images. Topics covered include technological paradigms of design, visual discourse, visual literacy, contemporary design principles and design movements of the twentieth century. Practical work will involve the use of image-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Paint Shop Pro, and drawing software such as Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Fireworks. Access to a multimedia computer with an Internet connection, audio capabilities and a CD-ROM drive is a requirement for this course.
