Applied Media Skills provides an opportunity to develop futher expertise in a practical skill in which a student has successfully completed at least one course: e.g. professional writing, desktop publishing, multimedia, photomedia. This will be achieved in two ways. First, by teaching the elements of the skill to a peer group; second, by applying the skill on a project in which real world conditions will apply as in work on production of an actual magazine or website. Most time and assessment credit will be devoted to the project. The peer teaching component is not just a means of fostering better understanding of the skill; knowing how to instruct others is itself a useful skill for communications professionals. Each student will also function as a learner in the peer teaching component of the course.
