COMM12022 Cultural Technologies

Technology has changed culture in profound ways, and has determined the shape of many cultures. This course examines cultural technologies from the printing press through the telegraph, the satellite, television and the Internet, critically examining the changes these technologies have wrought on society, especially in relation to the emerging global village. While the course is concerned with recent global technologies, it uses as examples the countries of the Pacific Rim to illustrate the issues.
