A contextual approach to developing an understanding of the basics of communication. The emphasis is on public communication, using speech, print, visual methodologies, and the World Wide Web as the primary means of ensuring a common understanding of meaning between audiences. The course explores current and emerging theories of human communication; the development of Internet and web technologies and their impact on individuals, organisations, cultures, and instructional communication. Electronic tutorials, chatroom and on-line discussion groups and assessments of electronic communication methodologies will be used to ensure a high level understanding of the issues involved.
