Bachelor of Construction Management CQ29

Duration: 6 - 8 years part-time.
Mode and Location: External only.
Courses/Units of Credit: 29 courses/192 units of credit.
Faculty: Engineering & Physical Systems.
Entry: QTAC. Those studying the program must be employed in construction works (850355).
Accreditation: The Faculty is seeking accreditation of this program with the Australian Institute of Building.
Practicum/Work Placement: It is a requirement of the program that students write up two reports on their work experience while studying.

Program Overview

This program provides training in all aspects of construction management and aims to produce graduates capable of managing and controlling complex construction projects. Students must be employed in the building industry.

Prospective students are encouraged to talk to the Program Coordinator about exemptions from the program based on previous study or professional experience. The Faculty has established sets of exemptions for holders of TAFE qualifications.

A normal part-time load is 12 units of credit per term. Students should note prerequisite requirements and course availability (in this handbook) when constructing your program in liaison with program advisors. It is suggested that you study courses in order of level. However, you may choose to bring courses forward provided you have studied the necessary prerequisites and the courses are available.

Degrees in Construction Management with Honours

Construction Management students may be eligible for honours on the following basis:

  • program work is the same for the pass and honours degree;
  • BLCN14036   Construction Management II course will contain a substantial amount of research;
  • a grade point average (GPA) will be computed for each student’s first attempt achievement in course units for each of the years on a 7 point scale, with 7 as the highest possible GPA;
  • the class of the honours will be decided by the following overall GPAs:
    GPA Class of Honours
    6.00 to 7.00 First
    5.50 - 6.00 Second A
    5.00 - 5.50 Second B
  • potential honours students will be advised of their candidacy at the end of Year 3 on the basis of a GPA in the region of 5.

Computing Requirements

It is a requirement of this program that all students have access to the Internet.

Transitional Arrangements for Building Courses

As the building programs have been restructured, students still in these programs must ensure that they complete courses out of the new programs at appropriate levels. Students must liaise closely with their program advisor to ensure correct enrolment.
