BLAR11033 Building Materials I
The course develops knowledge of the following for
metals, timber, cement, aggregates, bricks, soil,
ceramics, synthetics, paints, glass and polymers:
properties (including classifications); manufacturing
processes; application; storage, transportation and
handling issues; testing procedures; hazards; and
relevant Australian and international standards and
quality control considerations. It also provides an
introduction to: the development and application of
materials from industry by-products and materials
symbiosis; embodied energy considerations; life cycle
analysis of materials; and closed cycle manufacturing.
