Program Overview Public relations is a function of modern management. It is relevant to community affairs and government as well as to the corporate sector. In the contemporary world, organisations depend on public relations professionals to devise and implement strategies for effective employee relations, crisis management, and maintenance of an appropriate public profile.This four year program, combining flexibility and depth, is expected to provide students with eligibility for membership of professional bodies like the PRIA (Public Relations Institute of Australia) and AHRI (Australian Human Resources Institute). Graduates will have the ability to research, analyse, and plan strategically by setting objectives and evaluating results. They will have many career opportunities. Program Structure The Bachelor of Business Administration / Bachelor of Professional Communication requires the successful completion of 32 courses (192 units of credit) over a four year term. These courses are provided by the Faculty of Business and Law and the Faculty of Informatics and Communication. Students will be expected to complete 13 courses (the equivalent of two plans) in each Faculty plus six electives (which may be taken from any CQU Faculty). Students will be expected to complete two compulsory courses plus twelve courses in each Faculty stream. The courses from the Faculty of Business in Law should comprise either a double plan in Management and Marketing in the Business Faculty (where the intention is PRIA accreditation) or two of the elective plans listed below. The courses from the Faculty of Informatics and Communication should comprise a prescribed plan and an elective plan. Elective Plan
With the approval of the Dean, electives may be any undergraduate degree level courses taught in the University. Students are advised to seek assistance from program advisors in choosing electives. A recommended study schedule for this program can be obtained from your program administrator. Students may determine their own schedule based upon credit transfers and personnel study requirements. It is important to note that full-time students usually enrol in four courses per term and part-time students usually enrol in two courses per term per term.
