Bachelor of Education (Professional) CQ59

Duration: 2 years part-time.
Mode: External. Internal courses may be taken with approval by the Dean, and subject to program availability, students may complete the degree through on or off-campus study.
Location(On-Campus): Not offered internally.
Courses/Units of Credit: 8 courses/48 units of credit.
Faculty: Education & Creative Arts.
Entry: QTAC. Students should have completed a three year undergraduate degree or equivalent. Those who do not meet these requirements but have other relevant qualifications and/or experience may be permitted by the Dean to enrol.
Accreditation: The degree does not enable graduates to apply for registration as a teacher with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration.
Practicum/Work Placement: Nil.

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Education (Professional) is a degree for professionals and paraprofessionals from disciplines other than formal education and schooling. The program aims to provide an understanding of educational principles for all professionals, including nurses, engineers, accountants and other persons interested in education, particularly those engaged in the teaching and training of adults.

This program may also be used by trainers or teachers wishing to work in the vocational education and training sector.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 8 courses or 48 units of credit as outlined below.

Please note that full-time students usually enrol in four courses per term and part-time students usually enrol in two courses per term per term.

  1. Students who have previously completed EDED11275   Cultural Foundations of Education are excluded from enrolling in EDVT11017  .
  2. Students who have previously completed INDG11001   Aboriginal Society and Culture Contact are excluded from enrolling in EDED11277  .
  3. Students who have previously completed EDED11137   Assessment of the Learner are excluded from enrolling in EDED11345  .

Credit Transfer

Applications for credit for previous studies and/or prior learnings at this level must comply with the relevant requirements detailed within the General Information section of this Handbook. Application forms for credit may be obtained from CQU’s Student Administration.

Students may elect to take up to 2 courses at the master’s level. Students wishing to take this option should discuss their plans with the Course Coordinator and must obtain the permission of the Dean prior to enrolment in those courses.

Students who particularly wish to develop their skills in the delivery of lessons and training sessions, may wish to pursue the first of these options by seeking enrolment in one or both of the courses EDSE11001   and EDSE20007   which are offered within other course programs within the Faculty. Several other courses within the BEd (Professional) course also provide relevant teaching and learning knowledge and experiences, such as EDED12325  , and EDED11350  .
