EDEC11021 Play: Theory & Practice
The importance of play in young childrens
learning and development is widely acknowledged. Students examine
theoretical underpinnings for this claim and consider the implications
for the role adults might take. The influence of mass marketed toys
on childrens play, and issues related to the appropriation
and control of childrens play by the adult commercial
world, are the focus of the second module. Researching practice
and linking this to leading theoretical positions form the basis
of the approach taken in the course.
