EDED14352 Literature in the Classroom
Not offered in 2001
Recent documents, the National Statement on English for Australian
Schools (1993), and in Queensland schools, a new and innovative
Language Education Framework has been successfully introduced and
supported by a substantial inservice program. Both these documents
draw on a wide range of contemporary social, literary, and linguistic
theories, making it essential that teachers are familiar with these theories.
While the courses English Pedagogy I and II go some way to familiarising
students with these theories, this course focuses on knowledge of
contemporary social theory as a filter for the choice of literature in
the classroom. While outside the focus of this program, it is acknowledged
that the whole of culture and society, not just their verbal manifestations,
are texts.
