Handbook Terminology:

Program, Course

Prior to the introduction of the PeopleSoft platform in July 2001, Central Queensland University's terminology in relation to a 'course' was in line with that being used by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).  In this context a course was defined as a program of study leading to an academic award.  For example, a course would be something like "CA10 Bachelor of Arts" or "CA40BIOSC1 Master of Applied Science (Biological Sciences)".

Since the introduction of PeopleSoft, the terminology used by Central Quensland University (CQU) has changed so that it no longer aligns with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).  The following table shows the various terminologies and how they link together:

Example                               CQU Terminology        DEST Terminology
CA10 Bachelor of Arts         Program                          Course
MBI013007                           Course (Subject)             Unit of Study
