Program outline

This program provides a project-based Engineering Degree combining the disciplines of Electronics Engineering and Information Technology to produce graduates comfortable with a team approach for the development of software and hardware systems within an Engineering context.

This program is intended to produce engineers competent in the areas of research, design, development, manufacture, installation, operation, maintenance and management of computing systems requiring the specialised application of digital electronic engineering in the effective integration of hardware and software components of computing systems. A focus of the program is to provide industry with engineers capable of working in multi-disciplinary teams developing software for the control and management of industrial systems.

Program duration note: A considerable number of courses are available in the external mode and it is possible for students to undertake approximately one-third of the programs externally.

Recommended study schedule

A recommended study schedule for this program can be obtained from your program administrator. Students may determine their own schedule based upon credit transfers and personal study requirements.

It is important to note that full-time students usually enrol in 24 units of credit per term and part-time students usually enrol in 12 units of credit per term.

Degrees in Engineering with Honours

Engineering students will be eligible for honours on the following basis:

Appropriate industry experience employment and report

Each student must gain at least 12 weeks of appropriate industry work experience in a relevant area of engineering. The student must also submit a report indicating the kind of work done, the degree of responsibility involved, the person(s) to whom the student was directly responsible, and the general activities of the employer.

This report must be certified by the employer and submitted within 6 weeks following completition of the work experience period.

Note that graduation status will not be certified until the industry experience report is accepted as satisfactory.

Computing requirements

It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that all students have access to the CQU World Wide Web site via the Internet. Students may be required to undertake various components of study in the program using email and the Internet.
