Program aim

This program provides an opportunity for graduates who wish to extend their knowledge and skills in information technology, information systems processes, and technology management at a professional level. Within this highly relevant framework graduates are well prepared to contribute to future growth and change, whilst at the same time enhancing their individual advancement opportunities. The specialty plans in this program focus on particular aspects of technology, management and organisations.

Entry

A bachelor degree in any discipline from an Australian university or college; or a CQU Graduate Certificate in Information Systems or equivalent.

Candidates who have completed an approved graduate diploma such as the Graduate Diploma of Information Systems Management CF05, will be granted standing of up to 6 courses in this program.

Advanced entry is available directly into Term 2 for students who can demonstrate that they have attained the required knowledge. These students will undertake nine courses to complete the program. To be granted advanced entry a student must:

  1. have a bachelor degree, and
  2. be able to demonstrate they have the required knowledge (based on the content of COIS20024, COIS20025 and COIT29222 and
  3. either:

Transfer of credit

The Master of Information Systems and the Master of Information Technology programs share a common foundation year, entry levels, and also many advanced courses. Therefore, students who transfer from the Master of Technology program can be given full credit for all courses studied in that program, provided that the requirements of this program are met.

Part-time program of study

In formulating their program of study candidates who are studying part-time by distance education should give consideration to their work and other commitments, and the prerequisites for advanced courses, and if necessary seek advice from the Program Administrator.

Workshops

There are no compulsory workshops in this program. However, students are advised that some Business & Law courses may require attendance at workshops.

Computer equipment resources

Students will require access to a computer and printer. Access to the Internet is also required for some courses. The suggested minimum requirement is an IBM compatible computer. If buying a new computer, students should purchase the best quality and highest capacity they can afford. CQU campuses have computers, which may be accessed by students on a 24 hour basis.

Transitional arrangements

Students who began studying towards the Master of Information Systems (CF75) or the Master of eCommerce (CU14) prior to Winter 2004 will be allowed to graduate under the previous structure if they wish, or choose to graduate under the present structure. Students who begin the program in Winter 2004 or after, must follow the new structure.
