Program outline
The Master of Business Administration (Health Services Management) is designed to prepare health service managers to apply contemporary management and business knowledge and perspectives in an interdisciplinary manner to the dynamic health service environment in which they are likely to find themselves as managers. The program follows the structure of the MBA offered by the Faculty of Business & Law. The program has been designed for students from a wide variety of educational and professional backgrounds.

The program consists of 10 courses of study from the Faculties of Business & Law, Arts, Health & Sciences and Informatics & Communication plus 2 electives.
There is considerable flexibility regarding the order in which the student wishes to study these courses.

Entry
Applicants must have:
- a sound bachelor degree from any faculty at an Australian university or college, together with at least 2 years' work experience in a management capacity in the health science industry;
- an honours degree or a degree with distinction in any of the health sciences from an Australian university or college; or
- a bachelor degree and a graduate diploma in any of the health sciences from an Australian university or college, or
- qualifications which are deemed equivalent.
Program objectives
The program aims to develop in students:
- a sensitivity to changes taking place in the health service environment induced by globalisation, institutional and technological development, economic and social restructuring, strategic orientations, workplace and labour market reforms;
- a familiarity with dimensions of the management and administrations of health service delivery through the integration of relevant disciplinary perspectives within the core courses of study;
- a capacity to perceive and analyse the dynamics of different health service delivery environments in order to select and implement appropriate business and management records; and
- the recognition of and a respect for the ethical considerations, both legal requirements and social responsibilities, in the exercise of management authority and in the conduct of business entrepreneurship.
Workshops
There will be a non compulsory workshop in MGMT20112 Strategy Formulation & Initiatives. Non-compulsory workshops may be held in other Business & Law courses.
