Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) CG03

Duration: Undergraduate entry - 4 years full-time; TAFE Diploma of Early Childhood entry - 3 years full-time
Mode & Location: Years 1, 2, and 3 are internal - BDG/GLD/MKY/ROK; year 4 is external
Courses/Units of Credit: Undergraduate entry - 32 courses/192 units of credit; TAFE Diploma entry - 24 courses/144 units of credit

Entry: No new enrolments are being accepted into this program (only available for continuing students).
Accreditation: Graduates are eligible for provisional registration with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration. Full registration is gained following the equivalent of 12 months successful, full-time teaching.
Practicum/Work Placement: 100 days of Fieldwork must be undertaken, 80 days will be completed in schools working with registered teachers, and a further 20 days in an educational setting.

Program Overview

The proposed outcomes of the BEd(Early Childhood) program focus on preparing teachers, who:

Early Childhood education specialists should have a degree in early childhood education, or a degree in education with an early childhood education specialisation, including substantial professional studies in child development for 0 - 8 years and effective learning and teaching in a range of P-3 settings. Specialists should also have teaching experience with children in P-3 settings. Although this degree recognises a specialisation, graduates are eligible for registration as a teacher in a primary school to year 7.

Students with TAFE Qualifications

Students who have completed the Diploma of Early Childhood (or equivalent) may apply through QTAC for entry into this program. Students with this qualification are given credit for the equivalent of one year’s study and are required to complete 24 courses/144 units of credit of study (See Course Pathway B).

Students are required to consult with the early childhood course coordinator to determine the number of courses advanced standing.
