Bachelor of Education (Secondary Music) CU05

Duration: 4 years full-time.
Mode: internal.

Accreditation: Graduates are eligible for provisional registration with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration. Full registration is gained following the equivalent of 12 months’ successful, full-time teaching.
Practicum/Work Placement: 100 days of Fieldwork must be undertaken. Fieldwork is undertaken at the student’s expense. 80 days will be completed in schools working with registered teachers, and a further 20 with children in an educational setting.

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary Music) provides graduate students with the opportunity to develop as professional teachers through a comprehensive tertiary program, extensive practical experience in schools and the community. This program enables preservice teachers to prepare themselves to teach a range of secondary school courses including:

  • English;
  • Expressive Arts (including Art, Drama, Music)
  • Computer Studies;
  • Health Studies;
  • Languages other than English;
  • Mathematics;
  • Physical Education;
  • Science and Agriculture;
  • Social Science (including Accounting/Business Studies; Economics, Geography, History, Legal Studies).

Other course areas may be available depending on availability of staff to teach the curriculum area.

Successful graduates are eligible to seek provisional registration as teachers with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration. Full registration is gained following the equivalent of 12 months’ successful, full-time teaching. Graduates are eligible to apply for teaching positions with employers including Education Queensland, Catholic Education and independent schools. Currently graduates are teaching in State, Catholic and independent schools throughout Queensland, interstate and overseas.
