MUSC12053  Techniques & Literature of Music

The focus of this course is on the study of structural and formal aspects of musical compositions, styles of instrumentation and compositional devices in representative works. While a variety of examples from the major stylistic periods are discussed, there is a close examination of twentieth century repertoire and compositional styles. The course involves the scrutiny of musical scores, the further development of score-reading and analytical skills and some creative composition.
