Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Studies) CQ53
Duration: 5 years part-time.
Mode: External only.
Location(On-Campus): Not offered internally.
Courses/Units of Credit: 22 courses/132 units of credit.
Faculty: Education & Creative Arts.
Entry: QTAC. Entry requires successful completion of a registered
Associate Diploma or Diploma in Child Care or equivalent, and considerable
relevant workplace experience. Students must be currently employed
full-time or permanent part-time in an early childhood setting.
Accreditation: Graduates of BEd (ECS) are eligible for provisional
registration with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration.
Full registration is gained following the equivalent of 12 months successful,
full-time teaching.
Practicum/Work Placement: 16 weeks supervised fieldwork in both primary and early
childhood settings.
Residential School: Nil.

Program Overview
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Studies) program
focuses on education issues for children between 0-8 years of age
in a range of early childhood settings. The program also includes
studies in the key learning areas needed to teach all levels of
primary school. Students will undertake practicums in primary, preschool/kindergarten
and day care settings. Graduates are qualified to take up positions
as directors of day care centres, teachers and directors of kindergartens,
teachers and teachers-in-charge in preschools and teachers in primary
schools.
Students are advised to undertake the course schedule in the
sequence as listed in the program structure. Individual variations
from this may be approved by prior negotiation with the course coordinator.
The equivalent of 16 weeks supervised fieldwork is required.
