Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) CK07

Duration: 4 years full-time, 8 years part-time.
Mode: Multi-modal. Education courses are internal only Yrs 1 - 3, with the fourth year undertaken in the external mode. Science courses may be taken in either mode.
Location(On-Campus): R.
Courses/Units of Credit: 36 courses/216 units of credit.
Faculty: Arts, Health & Sciences; Education & Creative Arts.
Entry: QTAC.
Accreditation: Graduates are eligible for provisional registration with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration. Full registration is gained following the equivalent of 12 months’ successful, full-time teaching.
Practicum/Work Placement: 100 days of fieldwork, 80 of which is under the supervision of BTR registered teachers.
Residential School: Dependent on science courses selected.

Program Overview

This program is a combined degree for students wishing to enter the profession of teaching with specialisation in secondary education. It provides students with the opportunity to develop as professional teachers through a comprehensive tertiary program and extensive practical experience in schools and the community. Curriculum subject areas are offered depending on availability of appropriate curriculum studies in the discipline degree and the availability of pedagogical studies in the Education degree. This program enables preservice teachers to prepare themselves to teach a range of secondary school subjects including:

  • Biology or Chemistry to Year 12;
  • Multi-strand Science to Year 12;
  • Science to Year 10;
  • Mathematics to Year 12, or
  • other second teaching area to Year 10.

Subject areas are offered depending on availability of discipline studies in that area.

  • 12 courses from the Bachelor of Science program;
  • 6 courses in the second teaching area;
  • 16 courses of professional education studies from the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) program.
