Program Overview

This program is a combined degree for students wishing to enter the profession of teaching with specialisation in secondary education. It provides students with the opportunity to develop as professional teachers through a comprehensive tertiary program and extensive practical experience in schools and the community. This program prepares preservice teachers for teaching a range of secondary education curriculum areas, one of which will be Mathematics A, B and C to Year 12. The six terms of study in the second curriculum area can come from any appropriate discipline area.

Curriculum subject areas are offered depending on availability of appropriate curriculum studies in the discipline degree and the availability of pedagogical studies in the Education degree.

Graduates are eligible to apply for teaching positions with employers including Education Queensland, Catholic Education and independent schools.

Program Structure

The combined degrees will consist of 36 courses as follows:

  • 14 or 15 courses from the Bachelor of Mathematical Science program
  • 5 or 6 courses from the second teaching area
  • 16 courses from the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) program.
