Program Overview The Bachelor of Engineering consists of a common first year followed by three years of specialist training in the fields of civil, electrical or mechanical engineering. The first year of the Bachelor of Engineering program is offered at CQUs Gladstone, Mackay, Bundaberg and Rockhampton campuses. The advanced years of the program are normally taken at Rockhampton but some specialisations, such as process engineering, may require a student to enrol at Gladstone. The first two years of this program are common to the co-operative education engineering degree. It is possible, in some years, for high achieving students to transfer to that program. The Faculty offers the only project-based learning Engineering degrees in Australia. This style of teaching offers the opportunity to learn in context - where you are learning for a reason, not just to pass exams. Team work and problem solving skills are learned alongside the technical content in an exciting real world engineering environment. Program StructureAll students enrol in a common first year and then select a specialist stream. In this year students must complete:
Students will then enrol in the prescribed courses for a specialist stream. Three streams are offered: civil, electrical and mechanical engineering. Civil Stream
Electrical Stream
Mechanical Stream
Vacation Employment and ReportAs part of the requirements for the 4 year Bachelor of Engineering course, each student must gain at least 12 weeks of vacation employment in some area of engineering. The student must also submit a report indicating the kind of work done, the degree of responsibility involved, the person(s) to whom the student was directly responsible, and the general activities of the employer. This report must be certified by the employer and submitted by the end of the second week of the term following the vacation period. Degrees in Engineering with HonoursEngineering students will be eligible for honours on the following basis:
Rules for progression into the Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op)Students enrolled in the traditional Bachelor of Engineering program who meet all the rules for progression in the Bachelor of Engineering Co-op programs may be invited by the Faculty Education Committee to transfer into the Cooperative Education program. Invitations to transfer shall be limited in numbers to the remaining unfilled industry placements. Where the number of students eligible for transfer is greater than the number of remaining unfilled industry placements, invitations to transfer shall be decided by the students GPA. Transitional Arrangements from CA12/CA06/CA07/CA08/CA68Since these Bachelor of Engineering programs are being phased out courses in Years 1 and 2 and 3 are no longer offered. Students must ensure that they complete courses at appropriate levels, and should liaise closely with their program advisors to ensure correct enrolment. Students normally undertake 6 courses per term, which total 24 units of credit. Students are advised to complete courses in level order, and must ensure that prerequisite details are met. All students must confirm their enrolment with the Program Adviser.
