Program outline
The aim of the program is:
- to provide students with research skills and scholarly training in the fields of professional communication, journalism, media, film, cultural studies and multimedia.
- to enhance professional skills and knowledge required by employer groups in the professional communication, journalism and media industries.
- to prepare students for postgraduate work by undertaking a research project in the above fields.
The entry requirement is a Bachelor of Communication degree or Bachelor of Arts degree with a plan in a relevant discipline and a grade point average in a relevant discipline of Distinction level or above, or a qualification deemed equivalent. Applications for entry to Honours are considered on their individual merits. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements specified are not guaranteed entry.
Program structure
The BCommn (Hons) program consists of 48 units of credit of coursework, research and dissertation. The coursework component consists of one core course and two electives (a total of 24 units of credit). The research component will consist of a 15 000 - 25 000 word dissertation (24 units of credit).

Part-time students will normally undertake the coursework courses in Year 1, and the dissertation in Year 2 of their candidature.

On the basis of their academic performance in the Honours program, students will be awarded:
- First Class Honours
- Second Class Honours, Division A
