SOCL19071 State, Ethnicity and Gender

Course Description

Through a critical study guided by feminist sociological theories, students will be introduced to the social constructions of ethnicity and gender by exploring the ways in which such constructions are framed within the Australian State. This course will assist those who intend to work in community settings to begin to recognise relevant ideologies and the consequent politicisation which occurs in bureaucracies, community organisations and lobby groups. The course has been designed to explore both the theoretical constructs that inform ethnicity and gender as well as some practical, sociological methodologies associated with analysis.
