PHYS12076 Properties of Materials
Course Description
Review of ideal gas laws and the laws of thermodynamics. Free energy, real gases, low temperature techniques. Heat transfer and heat exchanges. Review of fluid flow. Non-steady state flow. Flow measurement. Molecular velocity distributions. Mean free path, diffusion, Knudsen flow, vacuum practice. This course introduces students to the structures of solid matter and the techniques of materials analysis. Particular attention is given to x-ray techniques and scanning electron microscopy.
