Course Description

The acquisition of aural skills is integral to the study of the voice. The singer must have good aural perceptions of harmony and rhythm. In order to satisfy this aim, the study of Musicianship has been nested within the course that addresses the study of the voice: Vocal Studies. The vocal module will provide further studies on the principles of vocal production. It will include a regular vocal lesson, a regular workshop with focus on performance and technical problems and a regular lecture that will cover basic anatomy, physiology and pedagogical issues relevant to the study of the voice. In vocal lessons in the course, the focus will be on advanced techniques of breath usage, support and placement of the voice. The student will be working on more scales and exercises to strengthen the middle register of the voice, and to further refine process of making the registers even. The lectures will revisit such issues as Vocal Anatomy, Body Anatomy, Breath Support and Vocal Management and Hygiene, and to elaborate in more detail those subjects studies in Vocal Studies 1 and Vocal Studies 2
