ENPO20013 Professional Issues in Process Management

Course Description

This course explores in greater depth the legal and professional issues that process engineers must be familiar with to safely and effectively manage chemical process operations. The course has four key themes, namely (a) key laws and legal issues applicable to the operation of chemical processing operations, (b) professional ethics and ethical issues relevant to chemical process operations, (c) environmental and sustainability issues relevant to the chemical processing industries and (d) issues regarding social and community responsibility. Topics covered in this course include: contract law, duty of care, negligence, OH&S law, IP law, professional conduct & defamation, key issues in engineering ethics, key issues & methodologies for environmental management, what sustainability means in the chemical process industries, providing leadership with respect to social responsibilities and community relationships. The emphasis throughout will be on (a) understanding the underlying issues and their complexity, (b) analysing the complexity and developing an integrated solution and (c) applying the knowledge to the chemical process industries.
