ENPO20001 Physical and Chemical Processes

Course Description

Topics to be covered in this course include: Basic concepts of applied physical chemistry including thermochemistry and combustion; chemical and phase equilibria; chemical kinetics; ideal and non-ideal solutions; galvanic cells and electro-chemical reactions. Process fluid mechanics including behaviour and handling of non-Newtonian fluids; empiric and computational fluid dynamics; pumping, pump selection and piping networks, mixing, settling and agitation; dense media and gravity separation; MHD (magneto-hydrodynamics). Bulk materials handling and communication including crushing and grinding; screening and separation; conveyor and feeder design (including belt conveyors, vibrating pans and feeders, pneumatic conveying, elevators, etc). Thermodynamics and heat transfer including energy analysis; heat exchanger fouling; heat exchangers networks.
