ENEM12001 Fluid Mechanics

Course Description

To provide students with an understanding of the properties of fluids and to introduce fundamental laws and description of fluid behaviour, and the basic concepts of thermodynamics. Topics include: the fundamentals of fluid properties and behaviour, fluid pressure and force, forces on immersed bodies, the stability of floating bodies, the use of the equation of motion in various flows, control volumes, conservation of mass, the momentum equation, similitude and modelling principles, the Navier-Stokes equation, the boundary layer concept and Reynolds stress, friction for laminar and turbulent flows in pipes and pipe fittings.
