EDSE12016 Middle School Curriculum Studies

Course Description

Teaching and learning in Years 8 to 10 in selected key learning areas is the focus of this course. These areas complement similar studies in the other courses covering English, Maths, Science, and Humanities (Studies of Society and Environment). The influences of secondary school curriculum frameworks and especially those of the compulsory years of schooling are examined critically. A range of topics is examined including curriculum development, teaching and learning resources, assessment and evaluation, teaching strategies, and school work programs. Students are required to become familiar with teaching and learning relevant to at least one Queensland School Curriculum Council Key Learning Area syllabus in Years 8 to 10. Critical use is made of relevant sources of information including curriculum and policy documents to promote professional teaching and quality learning experiences.
