EDED11277 Racial Formation and Education

Course Description

A continuing debate centres on whether and how formal education can contribute to the alienation and marginalisation of ethnic minority groups, or alternatively can assist in efforts to address such alienation and marginalisation. This debate is explored throughout this course, which draws on concepts such as culture, society and culture contact to identify the links between racial formation and education. The debate is illustrated by reference to contemporary issues in Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander education.
