EDEC11021 Play Based Learning

Course Description

The importance of play in young children?s learning and development is widely acknowledged. Students examine theoretical underpinnings for this claim and consider the implications for the role adults might take. The influence of mass marketed toys on children?s play, and issues related to the appropriation and control of children?s play by the adult commercial world, are the focus of the second module. Researching practice and linking this to leading theoretical positions form the basis of the approach taken in the course.
