EDCU11021 The Arts
Course Description
Students are introduced to the arts as a key learning area, in particular to three distinct art forms, music, drama and visual art. The arts are seen as an integral part of everyday experience and as an integral part of social values and beliefs, including issues of social justice. Issues such as gender and personal identity will be reviewed, and students will be challenged to critically reflect upon the way conceptions of social justice are constructed by the arts. Basic to this course is the view that students require selected skills, knowledge, and classroom strategies in each art. Without such competencies integration is not possible. However, where possible, articulations between the arts and other courses will be made.
