COMM12023 Screen Studies

Course Description

Films contain within their frames the threads of cultures: the meanings, history and changes occurring in the webs of culture. Using a weekly film viewing, this course traces these threads of change in the concerns of our culture. In addition we examine the development of filmmaking in the past 100 years, tracing the technical developments that have driven the ability of film to bring into reality the vivid concerns of the twentieth century. At the same time, the nature of film as story- telling, as narrative, is a focus for critique.
