CHEM13033 Green Chemistry

Course Description

Offered Winter term every odd year. Green chemistry looks at the challenges facing the chemical industry to encompass sustainable development, by incorporating an environmentally "benign by design" approach to all aspects of the chemical industry. The course will examine the possibilities of renewable feedstocks, recycling, green oxidants, biocatalysts, solvent choice, and other approaches to reducing the impact of chemical manufacture on the environment, including waste toxicity reduction, and the ideal of zero waste production. Internet-based information resources will be incorporated.Distance education students will be required to attend a residential school for this course.
