Course Description

This course will provide an introduction to Government structures and operations at the Local, State and Commonwealth levels and the Australian Constitution in the context of the building design and construction industries. The course provides an introduction to the priciples of law relating to: sources and applications of the law, torts, contracts; types of building contract and consequences of breach of contract; role of contract documents including Specifications and Bills of quantities; tendering procedures for construction projects; sub-contracting arrangements; arbitration systems and options; application of Occupational Health and Safety law to construction sites; role of Australian Standards; statutory requirements for regulation for building works; licensing requirements for building professionals; planning regulations and application requirements.
