Course Description

The course develops knowledge of the following for metals, timber, cement, aggregates, bricks, soil, ceramics, synthetics, paints, glass and polymers. Properties (including classifications), manufacturing processes, application, storage, transportation and handling issues, testing procedures, hazards, relevant Australian and international standards and quality control considerations. It also provides an introduction to: the development and application of materials from industry by-products and materials symbiosis, embodied energy considerations, life cycle analysis of materials, closed cycle manufacturing.
