Program Overview

This degree provides students with training to become both professional chemists and mathematicians.

All programs must satisfy the core course and prerequisite course requirements.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 36 courses or 216 units of credit as outlined below:
Code Course
20 compulsory courses which are:
CHEM11007   Introductory Concepts of Chemical Sciences
CHEM11008   Essential Principles of Chemical Sciences
CHEM12018   Drug Discovery
CHEM12019   Metals in Chemistry
CHEM12020   Energy & Reactivity
CHEM13032   Chemistry Project
CHEM13033   Green Chemistry
BMED19007   Forensic Chemistry
CHEM10016   Environmental Chemistry
CHEM12076   Structural & Metabolic Biochemistry
CHEM12017   Industrial Chemistry
CHEM13027   Analytical Instrumentation
STAT11048   Essential Statistics
MATH11163   Mathematics 1A
MATH11164   Mathematics 1B
MATH11165   Discrete Mathematics
MATH12172   Multivariable Calculus
MATH12173   Linear Algebra
COIT11133   Programming A
COIT11134   Programming B
10 courses or 60 units of credit of Level 2 and 3 Mathematical Science courses.
A minimum of 24 units of credit (4 courses) of Level 3 Mathematics courses must be taken. It is highly recommended that
MATH12171   Differential Equations, and additional Level 3 mathematics courses also be taken.
6 electives, (36 units of credit), selected from any undergraduate degree program.

A recommended study schedule for this program can be obtained from your program administrator. Students may determine their own schedule based upon credit transfers and personnel study requirements. It is important to note that full-time students usually enrol in four courses per term and part-time students usually enrol in two courses per term per term.

Note: Students must check to see when and where a course is offered before enrolling. See the course availability section in this handbook for details.

Application for Credit Transfer

Credit transfer will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary studies equivalent in content and depth to the CQU program has been successfully completed. Students should examine the course synopses in this handbook to determine the courses for which they may be eligible to claim exemption. For more information about credit transfer contact the program administrator.
