Master of Information Systems CF75

Duration: 2 years full-time, 3 years part-time.

Accreditation: This program is accredited to professional level with the Australian Computer Society (ACS). (A person who completes a Professional Level qualification is eligible to become an Associate immediately and a full Professional Member after relevant information technology experience of four years).

This program provides the opportunity for qualified professionals to upgrade their knowledge and qualifications in information technology and information systems processes and management. Within this highly relevant framework graduates are well prepared to contribute to future growth while enhancing their individual advancement opportunities.

Entry

Candidates must possess qualifications and experience which are deemed equivalent to:

  • a bachelor's degree with a plan in computing or information systems from an Australian university or college together with at least two years' professional work experience;
  • an honours degree in computing or information systems from an Australian university or college; or
  • a bachelor's degree and a Graduate Diploma of computing or information systems from an Australian university or college, or equivalent.

Candidates who have completed both a bachelor's degree and an approved graduate diploma such as the GradDip of Information Systems Management CF05 or the GradDip of Information Technology (Software) CF43, will be granted standing of up to 6 courses in this program. Students entering from the GDIT (Software) (CF43) should have studied COIT12167   and COIT12170  , obtaining a credit average or better in all courses.

Note: It is strongly recommended that students who enter the MIS without GDISM or GDIT(Software) complete the courses required for GDISM (Program B) before undertaking MIS courses (COIS20028  , ECOM20001  , COIS20008  , ECOM20002  , COIS20010  ).

Part-time Program of Study

In formulating their program of study candidates who are studying part-time by distance education should give consideration to their work and other commitments, and the prerequisites for advanced courses, and if necessary seek advice from the Program Administrator.

Workshops

There are no compulsory workshops in this program. However, students who select courses which are included in the core of the MBA should refer to the note on Workshops in that area.

Computer Equipment Resources: Students will require access to a computer and printer. Access to the Internet is also required for some courses. The suggested minimum requirement is an IBM compatible computer. If buying a new computer, students should purchase the best quality and highest capacity they can afford. CQU campuses have computers which may be accessed by students on a 24 hour basis.

Transitional arrangements: Students who began prior to Autumn, 2000 will be allowed to graduate under the previous structure if they wish, or chose to graduate under the present structure. Students who begin the program in Autumn, 2000 or after, must follow the new structure.
