Graduate Diploma of Teaching (English as a Second/Foreign Language) CQ39

Duration: 1 year full-time.
Mode: Internal only.
Fees: Full-fee paying.
Location(On-Campus): R.
Courses/Units of Credit: 8 courses/48 units of credit.
Faculty: Education & Creative Arts.
Entry: Direct. Applicants must have achieved a minimum score of two plus on the Australian Second Language Proficiency Rating (ASLPR) scale, a score of 450 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS).
Accreditation: Graduates are eligible for the National ELICOS Accreditation Scheme, provided they have an undergraduate teaching degree prior to entering the program. The program is not registrable under the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration. However, students wishing to achieve a major or minor in EFL/ESL for teaching purposes with Education Queensland may do so through the Bachelor of Education (Secondary), or the Bachelor of Learning Management (Professional Japanese).
Practicum/Work Placement: Students will participate in two 20 day fieldwork experiences in the EFL/ESL industry. Practicum placements may be with schools, the ELICOS industry, AMEP, or private providers of English.

Program Overview

The Graduate Diploma of Teaching (English as a Foreign/Second Language) provides graduate students with the opportunity to develop as professional ESL/EFL teachers through a comprehensive tertiary program, extensive practical experience in schools and other experiences in a range of learning contexts.

The Graduate Diploma of Teaching (English as a Foreign/Second Language) provides students with the necessary competencies, methodological approaches and pedagogy to be able to teach ESL in an international educational setting.

Entry

Students who have completed an appropriate undergraduate degree are eligible to apply.

Students who have completed a Bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution with the appropriate subject combinations to make them eligible to apply for positions as secondary teachers in state, Catholic, and independent schools will be eligible to seek admission to the course.
