EDED12324 Student Needs & the
Supportive School Environment
Beginning teachers are concerned about how to
manage childrens behaviour, school administrators are
concerned with creating safe schools, and the Department of Education
encourages teachers to create a supportive environment for learning.
The first part of this course addresses these three concerns and
builds students skills in managing student behaviour in
a supportive and safe school environment. In the second part of
the course, students develop the ability to understand and plan
for the needs of the full range of children with special educational
needs. Students learn to identify children with various types of
special needs, become aware of special needs assessment, and know
how to begin planning for the effective inclusion of children with
special needs within the classroom.
