Program Overview

This program prepares graduates for a career in Tourism, which involves transportation, accommodation, food and beverages, entertainment, attractions and any private business or government body which in some way has an impact on these activities. Among the careers which are predicted to experience growth are those of professional conference and convention organiser, human resources manager, front office manager, financial manager and controller, events manager, publicist and media manager, and tour guide especially for those with a second language.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements for the Bachelor of Tourism award students must complete a program of 24 courses which comply with the requirements detailed below.

Students must complete:

Plus one plan from an undergraduate degree program offered by the Faculty of Business & Law.

Plus elective courses to bring the total to 24 courses.

Note: A plan is defined as 6 courses in a specialist area and must include at least 4 advanced level courses. A Plan may be chosen from the specialist areas offered by the Faculty of Business & Law. Alternatively, a plan may be chosen from an undergraduate degree program within Information Systems, Multimedia Studies or Communication.

  • A maximum of 12 level 1 courses may be credited towards the Bachelor of Tourism.
  • Where a course from a chosen plan has already been studied as a core course, another course from the discipline responsible for the chosen plan must be completed in order to achieve a full plan.

A recommended study schedule for this program can be obtained from your program administrator. Students may determine their own schedule based upon credit transfers and personnel study requirements. It is important to note that full-time students usually enrol in four courses per term and part-time students usually enrol in two courses per term per term.
