Course details
This course explores the impact of technology on our world by introducing the concept of the sustainable use of technology and the important role that the engineering professions have in developing, and maintaining the sustainable environments. Students investigate historical and current impacts of technology on individuals, society and the environment. They use a holistic, socio-technical systems view of sustainability to investigate the impact of and make risk assessments of engineering activities and projects with special emphasis on environmental impacts arising from renewable and non-renewable energy systems. Students work individually and in teams to apply information literacy skills to research and prepare reports and presentations.
Distance education (FLEX) students are required to have access to a computer and to make frequent use of the Internet.
