Course details
This course is geared towards students who have completed the pre-requisite course COIT20223 Operating Systems Fundamentals or a similar course at tertiary level. This course is the second in a sequence of two operating systems courses that will give the student an understanding of the principles, and practice, of developing effective networked operating systems environments. This course is designed to assist students in learning the principles of operating systems administration. This course is designed to give students practical experience with the management and administration of systems. The extensive use of a UNIX based operating will ensure that the topics can be dealt with in an interactive and real-time manner. The course will cover the essential areas of file structures, I/O systems, processes, the user, low-level OS commands and operations, network features and security. It is essential that the student have regular use of a computer on which they can load LINUX. The student must also have regular use of a computer that is connected to the internet.
