Course details
Through studying this course and completing the assessments tasks, students will learn about the concept of Intellectual Property (IP) protection and its various forms related to the commercialisation of science and technology. An overview of the Australain patent procedure, International IP law, and patent procedures in the USA and Europe are then discussed, along with an analysis of the patentability of biotechnology inventions and discoveries. Students will learn how to search the patent literature and to read and understand the content of specific papent documents. Students will learn about managing and securing IP protection, asessing its value, and using this knowledge in business decision making. Numerous case examples of scientific entrepreneurship, venture capital raising, licensing and product development will be presented.
