JALC10001 Japan and its Culture

Course details

This course aims to develop understanding of Japan, Japanese people and culture. It is designed to provide learning experience with both historical and modern aspects of Japanese culture, which will result in assisting students to enhance cultural awareness of their own. The course will also enhance students¿ cultural knowledge as contexts for their future Japanese language learning. Students are encouraged to take as much responsibility for their own learning as possible, so that learning becomes increasingly self-directed. The course is built with a number of fortnight topics around which students will conduct independent study. No prior knowledge of Japan or Japanese language is required for this course. For students who have no or little Japanese language learning experience may choose to study some introductory phase of Japanese language as a topic in this course.
